Alex, very clear example of a narrow depth of field. The grass makes a difficult subject, however, as it is hard to find one specific item in the plane of focus that holds the eye. Ideally, something like a lower, pretty leaf, or rock would dominate your focal point.

I like this, a much more specific object in the plane of focus. You might move the lock to the far left side of the composition to include it completely instead of leaving all of the blank space iin the left side of the photo.

If you got these little spider in focus, it would be a great photo. Perhaps move the center of the post into the bottom left junction of "thirds" lines.

Good keeping the aperture narrow. I might shoot down onto the log from above a bit, or bring the focal point much closer up the fence rail to the viewer so there is something more for the eye to focus upon.

If Teagen were in focus! this would be a nice portrait with his face nicely isolated from the background. Perhaps zoom out a bit to include all of his crazy hair!

Not sure what your primary focus is for this image. I am looking for a long depth of field that would have the bridge and trees all in focus.

How does this display a broad depth of focus?

I like the sun star. The trees are a little blurry. Be sure to pay attention when on auto focus and looking into the sun. It can sometimes give the auto focus fits so maybe you would choose to manual focus.

Focus a little soft, but a better depiction of a broad range of focus. If possible, I would re-position to get the leaves in the foreground out of the image.

Alex, this is the strongest image you have submitted. Good use of the large depth of field to get everything in focus and to create the blurred water. I like the strong use of thirds in the composition.

This is a complicated composition that doesn't grab my eye in any way. I do like the yellow leaf. Don't be afraid to "harvest" elements out of the photo before taking the photo. It looks like you could have used a smaller aperture to get more of the tree bark into focus.

Alex, I am curious if you review your photos full screen before submitting them? Though I like the mood of this photograph it is blurry and out of focus. Compositionally, I would have tried to zoom in and capture more of the road moving diagonally across the frame.

I like the grain detail, but the exercise was to use a small aperture (F22) in order to get as much of the image in focus as possible. That said, this does illustrate the need for a mid range aperture (F8-14) to increase the depth of field enough to include detailed focus across on a non-planar object while still blurring the background. Also, I would consider moving the composition up and left to show more of the rich and contrasting background colors of fall leaves.

I like this shot. I might consider shifting the composition a bit to the left to include the entire first ring. Again, however, the assignment was to use a small aperture (F22) to capture ALL of the rings in focus.

Nice image. I would love to see your F-stop number on this and then compare it to your specific plane of focus. If you had a high F-stop (F22 or higher) your plane of focus should have been just beyond the first white dot in the composition. That would have allowed better focus in the foreground while keeping the background adequately sharp. Another though would be to have the person on the steps stand and fill the white space for a nice compositional element.
